I realized when the cold hit this past week that my girls didn’t have any mittens that fit them any more, so I used the Family Mittens pattern and Cascade 128 Superwash in wisteria, cotton candy, and denim — one skein each made three pairs of mittens, with enough left over for a hat.
These hats were all made from leftover yarn I had in my stash – Spud & Chloe sweater yarn in pollen, firefly, and popsicle (you could also use firecracker). The pattern is Spud & Chloe too, although I modified it because I didn’t like the long, saggy top. The fun part about the hats and mittens is combining the colors in different ways, coming up with patterns, and finding multiple ways to use a set of colors to create different effects.
This scarf wraps around your neck and keeps your very warm – kind of like walking around with a blanket wrapped around you. The yarn is Blue Sky Alpacas bulky in frost, tripled, on size 19 needles (huge!) and the pattern is available for free here. I knit it in less than two hours – that’s the great thing about bulky yarn and big needles!
