When a group of parents and I founded Springwater Environmental Sciences School, a public charter school, in 2006, we commissioned local artist Carrie Moore to design our school logo. Carrie was the perfect artist for Springwater because her wood block prints reflect such a feel for the natural world, and she is a member of our local community. She produced several options for our board to choose from, and we liked them all so much, we couldn’t choose just one! We selected the Meadowlark (above) as the Springwater symbol, and each of the other pieces as the symbol for each of our classes. Every year, as we’ve grown grade by grade, Carrie has created a new piece of art for us. This year, when we finally reached eighth grade, we commissioned the last piece and my collection was complete. The photo to the right is the entire collection of prints, proudly on display in my living room.
Carrie’s artwork is amazing – check out her website here. She also runs wonderful kids’ art camps, and has been one of the most popular artists in residence at Springwater.
