Another free pattern . . . I love fall, when all the fun knitting patterns come out! This one is from the Purl Bee, an dfor some reason, I had a heck of a time getting the hang of the brioche stitch. I never did master it on the hat decreases, and finally just gave up and used a single color for the top of the hat (I kind of like how it looks).
I didn’t want to buy more yarn for the cowl, so I cast on 120 sts (instead of 218) and knit until I ran out of yarn (the cowl is about 8-9 inches wide) – the same look, but it doesn’t loop around the neck twice.
By knitting this way, I finished the hat and cowl with just one skein of Blue Sky Alpaca Suri Merino (164 yards of 60% baby sure, 40% merino) in color Snow (this was MC for the hat and CC for the cowl) and one skein of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted (225 yards of 100% superwash merino) in color Berry.
I used US 5 needles (16″ circular for the hat, and 24″ circular for the cowl).
