Two great hat patterns that more than justified two skeins of my favorite yarns:
Sweetie Pie Hat, a free pattern from Purl Bee – made from one skein of Anzula For Better or Worsted (80% superwash merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon) in color Mulberry. Knit on US 7 16” circulars and dpns. A quick and easy knit with a small “pretend cable” to give it some interest.
Cabled Canuck, a pattern created to showcase Tanis Fiber Arts Green Label Aran Weight Yarn (100% merino) – 1 skein in color Lilac. Knit on US 8 16” circulars (for ribbed brim) and US 7 16” circulars and dpns (for body of hat). This is a wonderful yarn I just recently found – I’ve been looking for a long time for a tonal yarn like this, where there are just subtle variations within the color, so it’s not so solid-looking, but not a mix of entirely different colors, either. The Aran Weight feels more like worsted to me, but it has a wonderful soft and springy texture that I love and will definitely work with again. The pattern took a lot longer than an average hat – tons of cabling! – but the end result is worth the effort.
