Another project inspired by New Crewel: The Motif Collection . . . using the dahlia design, I transferred it to the table runner fabric using Saral paper. The runner is made from linen twill (color oyster white) and is approximately 10″ wide by 52″ long. I used Appleton Crewel Wool in colors #757, 946, 944, 943, and 941 for the embroidery. I tried variations with each flower – on some, I used light to dark colors, others I used dark to light colors, and I mixed the colors up throughout the design on others.
When I was finished, I machine-stitched a stay-line 1/4″ around the edge of the runner and then pulled the threads to create a fringe.
Because I thought a runner might be more useful with matching place mats, I used Kona Cotton cerise and peony, cut 13″ x 17″, stitched a dark pink (cerise) and light pink (peony) piece together right sides outwards with 1/4″ seam, then pulled the threads to fringe the edges.
