Using this tutorial from the Purl Bee, I whipped up this practical-but-beautiful shopping bag for my weekly trips to the farmer’s market. I love how gorgeous the fabric is, but how durable the end product is, too, because of the sturdy canvas fabric and the way the webbing handles are sewn the entire length of the bag. And, because the fabric is double-sided, there was no need for all of the extra steps of sewing a lining!
* 3/4 yard of Robert Kaufman’s Railroad Denim (Deluxe Twill Stripe Indigo) (note: 3/4 yard was way more than I actually ended up needing – I think that 1/2 yard would have done it)
* 3 yards of Purl Soho’s Sangle Cotton Webbing (in color Navy)
* 2 yards of Purl Soho’s Bamboo Bias Tape (in color Navy)
* threads to match bag fabric and webbing/bias tape
I love Purl Bee tutorials – the directions are always so clear and easy to follow, and the construction ideas are so ingenious! I increased my bag by 1″ in both length and width, and now actually wish that I’d made it even a few inches bigger – this is definitely a pattern to keep handy, as it could be easily applied to any number of fabrics and designs.Pin It
