Another project with Spincycle Yarns Dyed in the Wool; this time a purchased a skein of Eastbank Esplanade, a color dyed exclusively for Knit Purl here in Portland, and knit a Wurm hat. What a great pattern – this would work with so many different yarns! Because Dyed in the Wool is sport weight, I used US 4s for the brim, and US 6s for the body of the hat. I knit size small, casting on 90 sts, and it fits me perfectly. I ran a little short and had to borrow stash yarn for just the final few rounds – I don’t think it even shows.
The hat took only two evenings, and I like how it shows off the handspun appearance of the yarn and the gradation of colors. Next I’m going to try using a solid neutral for the purl rows, and different bright colors for the “inside” knit rows. I like the doubled-over brim of the hat – it makes it fit warm and snug – and the slouch is just perfect, it makes that hat fit loosely over all of my hair, without being too slouchy. I can see why so many people on Ravelry have knit this free pattern!Pin It
