Spincycle cowl

Just because I couldn’t resist another skein of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool yarn, this time in color Nostalgia . . . I used Churchmouse’s welted cowl pattern and US 6 16″ circulars.  Because I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough yarn to complete size small (the single-wrap cowl), I used leftover Plucky Sweater in color Bashful for the “inside” knit stitch portions of the cowl.  In the end, I had some Spincycle left over – maybe it would have been enough, but maybe not?  It fell 10-20 yards short of what the pattern called for, anyway.

I thought about adding more rounds to the cowl, but I decided to stick to pattern – at first, I thought the cowl seemed a little small / short, so I blocked it open.  Note:  it REALLY blocked open!  I’m not sure I wanted the “inside” yarn to show that much, but it does sit nicely around my neck now, and you can scrunch it down as much as you want.

Knit at this size, in this yarn, the cowl is definitely more of a fashion item than a neck warmer – although I suppose it always makes me a little warmer, just having something around my neck.  I’m not sure yet if I like the look of it – how it lies and it’s length.  I’ll have to try wearing it once or twice and get a feel for it.  I’m also not sure that it shows off this yarn to its best advantage; maybe another hat or shawl would have been better, but I typically don’t like to knit the same pattern twice.  Anyway, I really like the yarn, and the pattern – just not sure about the FO yet, I guess.
