Shades of brown cashmere scarf

I’m starting to knit “manly” Christmas gifts, beginning with this scarf, knit from Pepperberry Knits DK weight yarn in marled colors Barn Owl and Fox Trot, and solid color Long Johns.  I used US 7s and the Purl Bee pattern No-Purl Ribbed Scarf, which is really cool because you get a ribbed appearance with a slip stitch (instead of the more time-consuming altering knit-purl rib stitch).

I used just one skein of each color and knit until I was through – I alternated 8 rows of one either Barn Owl or Fox Trot with 4 rows of Long Johns, then eight rows of the other brown color, then another 4 rows of Long Johns, etc.  I like the overall effect, the feel of the FO, and the length – long enough to wrap, but not so long that the intended male recipient will get confused 🙂

  1. I liked this shawl from the moment I saw it. Now I think, it’s time to knit one myself 😉 So have wondered if you could explain to me the technique you use when you knit with more than one colour. Do you take the other two colours along or to you cut the thread each time you change the colour (I hope not 😉 Thanks so much for your help.
