This is a gorgeous new yarn (at least, new to me!), dyed by a local dyer here in Portland – it’s called Brave Little Thread, and I picked up a skein of the Lighthouse DK at Knit Purl.  Several things attracted me to this yarn – the colors are beautiful, saturated and bring to mind spring, like pastels with a lot of oomph.  The yarn is a single ply and it’s made from baby alpaca, merino, and silk – talk about a winning combination!  It’s got a soft halo to it – probably from the baby alpaca.

I wanted to try it out on a pattern that would showcase the yarn, so I picked the tweed stitch version of Churchmouse Yarn & Tea’s Girlfriends Cowl.  I like how the tweed stitch gives visual interest without detracting from the yarn itself.  I knit it up on US 7s 16″ circulars to 9″ wide, and at 250 yds/skein, I had plenty left over – maybe enough for a simple hat?

This yarn is an ideal punch of color to use as an accent piece – hat, cowl, mitts, the like – and it’s so soft, you’ll want to find a way to wear it next to your skin 🙂  This color is Fearless, and the rest are just as beautiful – check them out here.
