Yoyogi Park quilts

In anticipation of renovating my daughters’ bedroom, I sewed each of them a quilt from Cloud 9s’s Yoyogi Park collection, designed by Skinny laMinx.  There’s something I love about the colors and patterns in these fabrics, and I especially appreciate that they’re made from organic cotton.  I used similar prints from each of the three colorways – Green, Gold, and Turquoise.  The fabric patterns are:  Tokyo Trees, Peeking, Feather Leaf, and Shrubbery.  You can see them all here, but I bought them from Bolt, my local fabric store, in one-yard increments.

They’re meant for twin-size beds, but I made them a little oversized, for better coverage.  I wanted to keep the design simple, to keep the focus on the fabric, so I just stitched together large horizontal pieces, and then quilted them horizontally at approx 5-6″ intervals.

For the backing, I again wanted to keep it simple, but I wanted to highlight some beautiful textured greys, so I bought three Robert Kaufman fabrics from Hawthorne Threads:  Essex Yarn Dyed (Graphite), Shetland Flannel (Grey), and Manchester Yarn Dyed (Shadow) – 6 yards each.  In its own way, I think that the backing is just as beautiful as the fronts!

  1. So sweet! I’m making some lap blankets for my boys (3.5yo and 10mo), but I haven’t been getting through them very fast on account of lack of time and energy. Such a sweet keepsake for kids.
