One of the great new(ish) colors from The Plucky Knitter – I had to find something to knit it up in, and I loved the idea of a hat and cowl set. The cowl is Camptown Races, knit in Plucky Primo Sport Round Table and Wintery Mix and Plucky Sweater Doo Wop (Primo Sport is, of course, sport weight, and Sweater is listed as DK, but they were close enough that I had no problem using them together for this project). I knit the longer version, so that it would wrap twice around my neck, on a US 5 12″ circular needle. Initially, I thought I’d prefer it as a scarf instead of a cowl, so I didn’t do the provisional cast-on, but when it was completed, I liked it best as a wrap-around, so I just seamed the two ends together.
I used only one skein of each color, and didn’t use up any of the three skeins – more leftovers for another Plucky color work project!
The hat is knit in Plucky Sweater, color Doo Wop, and it took almost all of one skein. The pattern is Rikke Hat, a free pattern that was fun and easy, and shows off the yarn beautifully. I used US 4 needles for the brim, and US 7s for the body of the hat. I love the set together – I think it will look beautiful against a dark grey coat come winter 🙂
